Practice Information

What is the meaning of your practice’s name, Acorn Integrative Psychotherapy?

An acorn holds the potential for growth into strength and prosperity. By integrating various psychotherapy approaches according to your specific treatment needs, I strive to support your efforts to grow and flourish.

What are your treatment approaches?

My treatment approaches include sensorimotor, psychodynamic, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing.

What is somatic psychology?

Somatic psychology (SP) is a body-centered approach helps people release the effects of traumatic experience on the body. We cannot think out way out of trauma through talk therapy alone. The interventions emphasize kinesthetic and bodily awareness (postures, movement, etc.) and working within the window of tolerance. SP promotes long-lasting changes by challenging limiting beliefs and discovering emotional and behavioral patterns that get in the way of your well-being.

What is a psychodynamic psychotherapy?

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is in-depth talk therapy that aims to alleviate emotional suffering and illuminate repeated relationship problems. The catalyst of change is a safe and trusting therapeutic alliance that supports the process of self-reflection and self-awareness. Together, we will explore your interactions with yourself, others, and between the therapist and client as various windows into your relationship patterns.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness originated from the Buddhist practice of being in the present moment without judgment. Several research studies have shown that mindfulness as a clinical intervention reduces emotional reactivity and improves behavioral regulation. Mindfulness is used in stress reduction, meditation, and mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy.

What is cognitive behavioral therapy?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment method that helps people identify, challenge, and change automatic thoughts and spontaneous perceptions that often contribute to emotional difficulties and maladaptive behaviors.

What is motivational interviewing?

Therapy is not about advice-giving or making people change. I practice communication techniques called motivational interviewing to assist people in finding their internal motivation to change. Before people can actively engage in making difficult changes, they may need help with resolving ambivalence or insecurities about change and figuring out why and how they want to change.

Are you available online? What about in person?

I offer online psychotherapy. Since I am licensed in the State of California, you must be physically located in California for all appointments. All virtual sessions take place on a secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform.

I am not providing in-person psychological services at this time.

What insurance do you accept?

I am an in-network provider with Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth Behavioral Health, and Medicare. Before beginning therapy, please contact your insurance company to verify that your specific health plan covers outpatient psychotherapy with me. I recommend that you also verify other benefit information, including deductibles and copayments.

For all other healthcare insurance plans, I recommend that you contact your insurer to inquire about your potential reimbursement with an out-of-network provider. I can provide a superbill.
